Oluwabunmi ‘Bunmi’ Fasuan is a dedicated academic and researcher specializing in Food and Industrial Microbiology, currently serving as a lecturer at Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI). With over a decade of experience spanning quality control, education, and freelance scientific writing, she brings a multifaceted approach to the study of Functional Foods, Microbial Physiology and Mycology.

Academic and Professional Background

Oluwabunmi is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, where she previously earned her Master of Technology in Food Microbiology. Her research portfolio focuses on biopreservation, food safety, and the therapeutic potential of functional foods. She served as the first Managing Editor for MicroBiotics between 2013 and 2017 when it first started as a magazine, and currently as the Laboratory Manager for MicroBiotics since it became a full bioscience firm in 2019. She also worked as a Quality Control Officer for the food production unit of Christcov Nigeria Limited between 2017 and 2022.

  • Biopreservation: Investigating the efficacy of Syzygium guineense leaf extracts in preserving nutritional quality and reducing spoilage in fruits like tomatoes.
  • Nutraceuticals & Functional Foods: Exploring bioactive compounds in avocado peels and the development of fortified fruit wines using Pleurotus ostreatus (Oyster mushrooms).

Teaching & Institutional Contributions
