Bosede Alowooye is the State Epidemiologist under the Ekiti State Ministry of Health. She was employed into the Ekiti State Civil Service in 2006 and served as the Logistics Officer of the Malaria Control Unit from 2006 to 2008 and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for the World Bank supported Avian Influenza Control Project from 2008 to 2010. As the pioneer Emergency Preparedness and Response Officer in Ekiti State Ministry of Health between 2011 – 2018, she strengthened the Emergency Preparedness unit in the state, and coordinated the Ebola response activities in Ekiti State during the 2014 Ebola outbreak and for Monkeypox outbreak in the state in 2017.
She worked as Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in charge of maternal mortality and is currently the M&E Specialist for the World Bank supported IMPACT Project (Malaria Elimination Track). She is also the Public Health Security Team Lead in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Governance Innovation Challenge.
She has also worked as the Surveillance Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System (SORMAS) Implementation Officer under Nigeria Center For Disease Control (NCDC) between 2018 and 2020, where parts of her duty included providing technical leadership to the State Surveillance Team on the use of SORMAS dashboard for data driven decision-making and provided mentoring support and supervision to local government Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers (DSNOs) on data collection and data entry using the SORMAS tool.
Among her various activities as the Ekiti State Epidemiologist are provision of quality and effective leadership for the public health security infrastructure in the state and ensuring the proper implementation of Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response and International Health Regulations in the state and supervision of the surveillance system in the state. She also ensures smooth running of the Public Health Emergency Operations Center to take actions as appropriate and has been supporting the Incident Manager in the coordination of the Covid-19 response.
She is also skilled at data collection, analysis, monitoring and evaluation, community engagement, outbreak investigation and response. She has multiple professional certifications within and outside the country, has publications to her name and has presented at conferences within and outside the country. Bosede has a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Masters in Public Health (MPH) in Laboratory Field Epidemiology from the Nigeria Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program and the University of Ibadan. She is currently pursuing an online PhD from Texila American University. She is a mother of four children, an unrepentant Arsenal fan and a lover of books.
