Ekiti State Training of Trainers (ToT) on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) was held at Koltotel Hotel in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State between June 19 and 27, 2024. It was powered by The Nutrition Department, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in partnership with Ekiti State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (SPHCDA), and support from Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN)/The World Bank Group. The training covered modules such as:

  1. Introduction to Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN)
  2. Counselling Skills
  3. Adolescent and Maternal Nutrition
  4. Breastfeeding
  5. Complementary Feeding
  6. MIYCN in Exceptionally Difficult Circumstances
  7. Actions to Protect, Promote and Support Breastfeeding
  8. Nutrition Assessment, Growth Monitoring and Promotion
  9. (a) Social and Behavioural Change (b) Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
  10. Monitoring and Evaluation

The modules were taken across several sessions, and included activities such as facilitations, roleplays, clinical practices, group works and discussions, and individual assignments. These were punctuated by interactive sessions,  tea-breaks, lunches and day-to-day evaluations of the day activities.  Pretest was done on the first day to measure the knowledgebase of the participants, and post-test was carried out on the last day to assess the knowledge gained.

Back-to-work plans were designed by individuals and groups, and presented on the last day as well, with letters of motivation and commitment written and signed by individuals as well.   Activities recaps and summary of each day of the training are presented below.
